Press Release: Frink to seek re-election bid as Davenport Alderman At Large, 7/27/07

  • DAVENPORT, IA – Ian Frink, Alderman at Large, has announced his intention to seek a second term on the Davenport City Council this fall.

“I have been privileged to have the opportunity to serve the citizens of Davenport,” Frink said. “It is my hope that the council is able to build on the progress that has been made and is able to achieve our goals of building a better Davenport.”

Frink has worked to fulfill his campaign goals set forth in 2005.

He has voted for two budgets that offered no increases on the city’s operating budget and voted for one budget that offered no increase on the city’s capital budget.  In addition, Frink helped lead an effort to reduce the storm water fee by 30%.

Frink also introduced and has launched the new 100-Homes Program for the city.  The program offers financing for single-family residential improvements in the city’s established neighborhoods.  The program is open to persons from all income levels and has 11 partnering lending institutions that have pledged funding.

Frink has also supported other neighborhood initiatives including: the Community Partnership Program, new NETS police officers, a new Neighborhood Specialist position, and the re-building of neighborhood enhancement initiatives.

Frink has supported the increase of the DPD to an all-time high of 164 sworn officers and has supported the VIPS (Volunteers in Police Service) and Juvenile Offender Program.

Through his service on the GDRC, Frink has supported new business development, including four new tenants for the Eastern Iowa Industrial Center.  He also supported the new 600-job call center for AT&T, as well as other business developments.

Frink has worked hard to stay in touch with constituents, hosting 11 all-wards meetings throughout Davenport, in each of the city’s eight wards.

“Davenport is showing marked growth,” he said.  “Our population is now over 99,500, an increase of 2,000 persons in the past three years.  We have increased our tax base with business developments and our amenity base remains solid.  I was proud to see our city win the nation’s most livable (small city) award this year and hope we can continue to strive towards improvements.”

Frink continued: “It is key for Davenport to move forward during the next two years with a continued reduction in crime, an increase of business development, continued low tax and fee structures, a drive towards implementation of the West Diversion Tunnel, riverfront development, high levels of city service, continued strides towards attraction/retention of businesses and residents, and revitalization for our neighborhoods – some of the state’s most historic.”

“Our city offers some great services: our police department is nationally accredited and our fire department and public works department are nearing national accreditation as well.  In addition to this, we certainly have hard-working and dedicated staff members throughout our organization,” he said. “This is a great city to live in and we need to continue to strive towards restoring pride throughout our city.  We are fortunate to have a number of assets, including historic neighborhoods, an open riverfront featuring the nation’s most significant river, great new development opportunities, and honest hard-working citizens.”

“It is important for the upcoming council to restore trust throughout the community and to work towards being a more professional organization.  We have some hard working individuals on council.  If we can work together as a team, we will accomplish our goals and take Davenport to the next level.  If elected to a second term, I will work hard to turn these goals into reality.”

Frink is a vice-president at Crawford Company/Monoxivent.  Frink and his wife, Monique, have one child and live in a renovated 96-year-old home near the East Village and Lindsay Park.  He has an MBA from Frostburg State (Maryland) and a BA from Wisconsin – Eau Claire.  Additional information on the campaign is available at www.ianfrink.com; questions may be directed to Frink via email at ian@ianfrink.com or by calling 563-322-6446.

    • Vice Chair of the Greater Davenport Redevelopment Corporation

    • Member of the Blackhawk Task Force; Garage Policy Group; River-Center Task Force, Bi-State Regional Commission
