QC Times: Frink, Meeker for council at large, QC Times Editorial - Endorsement, 10/7/07

  • We wish all Davenport voters could sit down with the candidates running for aldermen at-large. Each conversation bolstered our optimism about the city’s future.

Jennifer Olsen brings a deep understanding of neighborhoods and has proven to be an effective organizer. LaMark Combs speaks clearly and passionately about his hometown. Tina Gillispie-Clawson  offered some good ideas on her candidate survey, but unfortunately for us, declined any opportunity for a personal interview.

In the end, we endorse Gene Meeker and incumbent at-large alderman Ian Frink.

Frink is doing the work, taking the lead on neighborhood forums throughout the city and making smart ideas, such as the 100 Homes project, a reality.

Meeker brings a breadth of municipal leadership experiences beyond Davenport, as well as years of leadership in downtown development.

On a council where major turnover is imminent, we believe Frink and Meeker’s experience will provide the steady rudder for progress.
